When the champions of the TRAM World Championship are celebrated, it’s not only their driving skills that shine – the trophies and medals do too! They come straight from the Wiener Linien workshops. With plenty of creativity, craftsmanship, and modern technology, unique pieces have been created.

Trophies with Character

This year, the three winning teams and the best individual drivers will receive handcrafted trophies – made by Wiener Linien apprentices in technical training. Here’s what they’re made of:

  • Material with history: The bases were cut from leftover rail sections, blasted, primed, and painted in the workshop. The result: robust, stylish, and weighing in at almost two kilos.
  • A refined look: Glass bead blasting gives the surface its elegant matte finish.
  • Individually engraved: Brass plates were cut, blasted, and engraved by the maintenance team.
  • High-tech on top: The trophy tops were 3D-printed in gold, silver, and bronze, using sustainable filament.

Medals with a Special Design

The medals also bear the signature style of Wiener Linien – created as a joint project by employees and apprentices from electrical engineering and mechatronics. After several prototypes, the final design was set:

  • Base body made of aluminum composite panel, designed with UV printing
  • Tram as a 3D element, produced separately and inlaid

This way, precise craftsmanship and modern technology come together in a true team effort.

The medals are 3D-printed and further processed to achieve their final design.
Combining precise craftsmanship, modern technology, and teamwork, the medals have become a real highlight.

A Piece of TRAM-WM to Take Home

And because our apprentices like to go the extra mile: they also produced around 1,000 colorful 3D-printed tram keychains. Every participant will receive one – and they’ll also be available in the apprentice area at the Öffi-Fest.

Grand Finale on September 13: Who Will Take Gold?
