The world’s best tram drivers gear up for the first TRAM Driver World Championship in Vienna

One day before the big premiere, Wiener Linien’s main workshop was buzzing with energy: 25 teams from around the globe took advantage of a full training day to fine-tune their skills. From precision stopping and reverse driving to spectacular show disciplines like tram bowling – everything was rehearsed one last time to ensure a flawless performance on the big stage.

Countdown to the premiere

Tomorrow, Saturday 13 September 2025, Vienna’s Rathausplatz will transform into the arena for the very first TRAM Driver World Championship. More than 50,000 visitors are expected as the world’s best tram drivers go head-to-head in eight thrilling competitions. At the same time, Wiener Linien will host a colorful "Öffi-Fest", the Public Transport Festival with interactive stations, demonstrations, live music, and culinary delights for the whole family.

Team Vienna is ready to shine

Representing the host city are Elisabeth Urbanitsch and Florijan Isaku – both highly motivated after the training session. “Today we ran through the toughest disciplines back-to-back – it was exciting and a real challenge. Tomorrow is when it counts, and we’re determined to show what we’ve got,” said Isaku. Urbanitsch added: “Practicing our teamwork was especially important. We know exactly how the other thinks – and that makes us strong. We can’t wait to represent Vienna and Austria at the championship.”
